In the blink of an eye, it’s over, which is appropriate all things considered. After several weeks of bouncing rumors, The Flash is finally set in stone to appear on the upcoming season of the superhero drama “Arrow.” Although there’s still no face to the name, at least fans know he’s on the way, and, naturally, he’s coming quickly.
Despite the lack of an official casting announcement for Dr. Barry Allen, who’ll set the stepping stones for the story of Flash, and possibly lay the groundwork for a spin-off series, producers promise that filming the first Flash episodes will begin by the end of September.
“We’ll have somebody by September 30, which is when we start shooting [his first] episode. So there is that timeline,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, according to Entertainment Weekly. “But it’s been a really exciting process just getting to meet so many fantastic actors and seeing the enthusiasm that so many people around town have for the character. It’s just amazing. I have pictures of myself at age four holding a Flash and a Superman doll. That I’m sitting here writing the Flash and Green Arrow now, it’s more than my little nerd heart can bear sometimes.”
Kreisberg previously hinted that Dr. Barry Allen would appear on at least three episode this season. “Despite the fact that he’s got superpowers, I think there’s something really relatable about Barry,” he said. “He got his super powers by accident. He isn’t God, he isn’t an alien, he wasn’t seeing this out. These powers came to him and his reactions to that feel very human and grounded… Oliver Queen is a very dark and tortured soul and Barry is not. I think it will be fun to see these two characters together because they have distinctly different world views.”
“Arrow” returns to The CW on October 9.
