On the sixth day of the Venice Film Festival the competition films continued to premiere and heated up the race for the Golden Lion.

The biggest premiere of the day was Terry Gilliam's new film "The Zero Theorem." The movie, which stars Matt Damon and Christoph Waltz, scored mixed reviews. Deborah Young from Hollywood Reporter enjoyed the film: "Terry Gilliam comically grapples for the meaning of life without getting very close." Meanwhile, Variety's Leslie Felperin was not enthusiastic and stated, "Terry Gilliam's latest bit of dystopian whimsy dissolves into a muddle of unfunny jokes and half-baked ideas."

Another highly-anticipated film was "Locke" starring Tom Hardy. Audiences raved and gave the film a standing ovation. Felperin of Variety gave the film a good review and stated, "An exceptional one-man show for Tom Hardy, this ingeniously executed study in cinematic minimalism has depth, beauty and poise."

Other films to premiere at the festival included "Miss Violence," and the documentary about Lance Armstrong entitled "The Armstrong Lie."

The festival also saw a number of high-profile films premiere. "The Canyons" snagged headlines for its screening, but mainly because the film's star Lindsay Lohan was a no-show. Lohan later issued a statement on her website explaining her absence. "I was never confirmed to attend. Of course, I would have enjoyed returning to that wonderful city and being a part of this amazing event, but my focus is on my health and well-being. Plain and simple, it is of the utmost importance," wrote Lohan.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe also made headlines for arriving at the Red Carpet for his new film "Kill Your Darlings," which premiered in the Venice Days sidebar. The movie has created a lot of buzz for the actor and that's likely to continue through awards season.

The Venice Film Festival still has number of films that have yet to premiere. The festival will run through Sept. 7.
