Juan Luis Guerra, one of the most celebrated and talented musicians to stem from the Dominican Republic, never sleeps. At 56, he feels that he's at the peak of his career. He's currently gearing up for a fall tour while working fervently on a new album. His long career has been studded with consistent success and respect, and now during a recent interview, at the highest moment of his career, he talks about what's in store for the future while reflecting on his joyful past.
"One lives absorbing the new music, the new arrangements, the new masters and learning more every day," Guerra said, reiterating that it's important to focus your energy on what's to come opposed to dwelling on the past.
After claiming that this is "perhaps the best moment of [his] career," Guerra said that over the past 30 years, his evolution has been geared in his work ethic. "I always demand more of myself and of all my musicians."
While he reflects positively on his career, there are times when the industry frustrates him. He hopes that soon there will be "laws in place that protect our music industry better... That's what all of us in the music industry want and what we hope can be achieved in the future," he said.
For the immediate future, Guerra is most excited for his concert on October 16 at the Noia Arena in Tel Aviv, optimistic that the crowd will react to he merengues that have made him an international star. The upcoming tour will also include shows in Colombia, Mexico, London, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, proving his international prowess.
Guerra, alongside Draco Rosa, also published a new music video set in the Dominican Republic last month for the song "Esto es Vida." Give it a watch below and look forward to a brand new album coming soon.
