Apple's loss is Google's gain, as the latest mobile operating system market share figures for August suggest.
According to NetMarketShare, Apple's iOS lost 3.35 percent of its market share from July to August. Despite the loss, iOS maintained itself as the top mobile platform worldwide with 54.91 percent.

Google's Android platform saw an increase of 2.84 percent. The slight increase was enough to keep Android at second place but still far from Apple's share. Android accounted for 25.28 percent for NetMarketShare's August figures.
Java encountered a loss in its market share numbers of less than 1 percent. With a loss of 0.43 percent, Java ME finished August with 8.86 percent.
BlackBerry placed fourth with 3.28 percent, which is 0.02 percent higher than Symbian's fifth-place position of 3.26 percent.
In regards to Microsoft's Windows Phone, the mobile operating system lost 0.18 percent from July and finished with 0.97 percent.
NetMarketShare, in order to collect its data, gathers its info from site visitors using its on-demand network of HitsLinkAnalytics and SharePost clients. The two networks include over 40,000 worldwide websites with approximately 160 million unique visits per month.
