Tim Tebow remains a New England Patriot after the team cut 10 players from the squad on squad on Friday.
Tebow, who went 6-of-11 for 91 passing yards, 30 rushing yards on six carries, two touchdowns and one interception in Thursday nights 28-20 victory over the New York Giants, will know his fate with New England when final cuts to reach the 53-man limit are made prior to the Saturday's 6 p.m. EST deadline.
"Whatever we do will be whatever we think is in the best interest of this football team, the 2013 team, whatever that is at any position," said Patriot head coach Bill Belichick.
The former Heisman Award winner showed the best and worst of Tebow Thursday night. Tebow, who started in the second half of the game, threw a pick to Giants' cornerback Trumaine McBride that he said he wishes he could have back.
"Just a little bit of miscommunication; my fault, I led him too far inside," said Tebow after the game.
But he showed flashes that he belongs on the team, as well. Tebow threw a 52-yard touchdown to free agent rookie receiver Quentin Sims on a third-and-10 play early in the fourth quarter, tossing it over the middle to Sims, who sprinted 30-yards for the score.
"He had the boo birds out the play before and then he comes back and throws a touchdown," said Patriots second-string quarterback Ryan Mallett of Tebow's first touchdown. "It just shows what kind of player he is, his character."
Tebow would link up with Sims again, with the quarterback finding his receiver in the back of the end zone for another touchdown, with six seconds left in the game.
"All training camp, me and Tim have connected on that a few times," said Sims, who is also trying to make the final roster. "Coach put a big emphasis on wanting to do that, so it was good we connected."
Among those cut were tight ends Jake Ballard and Daniel Fells, defensive end Marcus Bernard, wide receiver Johnathan Haggerty, and linebacker Mike Rivera. Tebow, for his part, does not seem worried about his prospects of latching on with New England. He will continue to prepare as he always does - whether it's for the Patriots or another franchise.
"Go to sleep when I get home, wake up, come work out, watch the film. See what I did good, see what I did bad, try to learn from it and get better," Tebow told reporters, as far as his weekend plans.
