Singer Alejandro Sanz and Barcelona footballer, Andrés Iniesta, are the most followed celebrities in the microblogging social network, Twitter, in Spain, according to EuropaPress.
The footballer's account has close to 7 million followers on his personal account @andresiniesta8, while singer Alejandro Sanz, born in Madrid, has over 10 million followers on his account @AlejandroSanz.
According to EuropaPress, thanks to Twitter the real popularity of Spanish celebrities can be discovered. It also reported a study realized by BoomBusiness where the amount of followers and fans of over 200 Spanish celebrities in areas like sports, music, cinema, TV, fashion and media were compared.
EuropaPress shared the names of the top ten celebrities, according to BoomBusiness' results, who also analyzed the subjects, content, interaction amounts and languages used. The list placed Alejandro Sans with 10,007,850 followers in first place, leaving Barcelona footballer Andrés Iniesta with 6,783,542 in second place, followed by Shakira's boyfriend, footballer Gerard Piqué with 5,575,204, Enrique Iglesias with 5,747,59, David Bisbal with 5,607,630, Cesc Fábregas with 5,575,204, Xabi Alonso with 5,402,136, Carles Puyol with 5,402,136 and in last place, Rafa Nadal with 4,956,782 followers.
EuropaPress reported that the general director of the company in charge of the study, Raúl Arbeloa, shared that both the tweets and the interactions celebrities have with their followers is fundamental for their success in the social network. The study concluded that the subjects that followers in the social networks enjoy the most are those related to social causes, sports, current issues and entertainment.
