John Kerry to Issue Statement on Syria Situation Friday [Live Streaming]

Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to deliver a statement Friday addressing the situation in Syria at 12:30 p.m. EDT.

This will mark the second time this week that Kerry, a former 2004 U.S. presidential candidate, has addressed Syria in public comments. On Monday, Kerry told reporters that there was "undeniable" evidence that the Syrian regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was responsible for a large-scale chemical weapons attack in the suburbs of Damascus that killed hundreds of people.

"The indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, the killing of women and children and innocent bystanders by chemical weapons is a moral obscenity. By any standard, it is inexcusable and - despite the excuses and equivocations that some have manufactured - it is undeniable," said Kerry, as reported by the Associated Press.

According to CNN, the release of declassified information on the Syria attacks comes as major military powers discuss the possibility of military intervention and action against al-Assad's forces.

 U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is slated to speak with nations at the United Nations on Friday to discuss the events in Syria, as well as meeting with permanent members of the U.N. Security Council at noon that day.

Former President Jimmy Carter issued a statement Friday stating that "a punitive military response without a U.N. Security Council mandate or broad support from NATO and the Arab League would be illegal under international law and unlikely to alter the course of the war."
