"The Voice" is going back to its roots for its fifth season.
NBC has released a promo poster for season five of the reality show showing the original four coaches--Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera-- posed and smiling, all donning red outfits.
Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera are returning to the show after giving up their coaches spots last year, Entertainment Weekly confirms. Shakira and Usher filled in for the two singers for the fourth season.
Green and Aguilera will be joining fellow panelists Shelton and Levine, reuniting the four original coaches for the show's upcoming season.
Aguilera and Green shared their thoughts on Shakira and Usher temporarily taking their spots. "I needed a moment to step away," Aguilera said. "Thank God for Shakira. She did a beautiful job."
Green said it was a bit strange to see Usher in his coaching spot. "It was awkward and intriguing at the same time," Green said. "It was a bit of an out-of-body experience."
Last season, Adam Levine faced some heat for a controversial statement he made. He was heard uttering "I hate his country" into a live-mic, while off-screen, after losing two of the contestants on his team in one night. According to Rolling Stone, the Maroon 5 frontman thought the controversy over his comments was silly.
"Ugh, really?" Levine said about the comment. "Everyone makes mistakes. If your intentions are good and someone misunderstands you, regardless of what the scenario is, I think people can see through stupid media hype. No offense."
"I think that as long as you allow yourself to be who you are, you can't really defend every single thing you say, and you can't worry about saying the wrong thing, you just have to say what you're going to say and stand behind it," Levine continued. "It's part of my personality to say things that piss people off," he added.
Drama from the coaching panel is what helps make the show a success. However, the show's coaches, along with producer and host Carson Daly, know that it's difficult to find a breakout star through "The Voice."
"A lot of things have to happen in order for that to take place. The goal of the show is to do what we can do with these amazing singers while they're on the show to get somebody into the front to win the show," Levine said. "We all know that the lightning in a bottle that you have to capture in order to be successful in the business is extremely difficult."
Yet, the show has been so successful because of the friendly battling between the judges and their respective teams, not solely because of the promising talent on the show. The judges asserted that discovering the next big music star really isn't what the show is about. "I don't know if that's the overall mission statement of the show," Levine said about launching the next big music act.
"It's not," added Daly.
"The Voice" season five premieres September 23 on NBC.
