"Good Morning America" host Robin Roberts will return to the morning talk show full-time after Labor Day. Roberts has been anchoring the show part-time since February.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roberts told reporters at the U.S. Open opening night gala that she would be returning after the national holiday on Monday. "But I love that I start on a four-day week," Roberts said. "Right? Snuck another one in there."
Roberts announced last June that she had been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare blood and bone marrow disease. She was forced to take a medical leave from "Good Morning America" last August to get a bone marrow transplant.
Although Roberts was out of commission, she appeared on the show multiple times to give updates on her health. In the meantime, many guest hosts, including Oprah Winfrey, filled her spot while she was away. After a "test run" at the show this January, she returned to hosting part-time a month later.
ABC created a news report called "Robin's Journey" to share her harrowing story of her fight against the disease. The report was honored with a Peabody Award in March.
It was also announced back in May that Roberts will be penning a memoir to share her experience battling the disease. The book will be published in April 2014. Her book, which is not yet titled, was acquired by Grand Central Publishing, a segment of the Hachette Book Group.
"I have long admired Robin Roberts's career and courage and am so honored to be publishing her book," said Jamie Raab, president and publisher of Grand Central. "Her story is both dramatic and inspiring, and will capture the incredible spirit that has endeared her to all of us who have followed her remarkable career and life."
Roberts also released a book in 2007 called "From the Heart, 7 Rules to Live By," which became a New York Times best-seller.
"I am humbled that many have an interest, and draw strength from my on-going journey," Roberts said about her new book deal. "I'm grateful for the prayers and well wishes of so many people. I'm thrilled that Jamie Raab and Grand Central Publishing will help me tell my story."
Roberts will also be returning to a show that has been dominating morning television; "Good Morning America" enjoyed 52 straight weeks as the top morning show, beating "The Today Show."
