A terrible event shocked the people of Puerto Rico on August 26, after a six-year-old boy was found inside an abandoned washing machine behind a supermarket in the neighborhood of Pueblo, in the municipality of Rincón.

According to Univisón, the parents of the abandoned child, a Mexican and a Puerto Rican, were detained for their alleged responsibility in the events that led to the death of the minor. The child was allegedly beating savagely and then abandoned in the interior of a washing machine. A judge set bail for the couple at $30 million, which has caused indignation among Puerto Ricans.

Javier Álvarez Luciano, the 37-year-old father of the minor, faces charges for violating the Firearms Law, attempted murder and child abuse, while his partner, Yanelis Lepuna López, the child's 26-year-old Mexican mother, faces two charges for covering up the event, according to La Prensa.

The minor, who was identified as Irvin Gael, was found with a head wound and bruises throughout his body. He remains in custody of the Department of Family, since no family member has claimed custody. The boy continues to receive medical attention, given the gravity of his wounds.

"We can't imagine the beating he took and how he was found. That the boy is alive is a miracle, god is protecting him," said the Secretary of Family of Puerto Rico, Idalia Colón, according to Metro.

The minor was found thanks to an anonymous call through the 911 Emergency System, which informed the island's authorities. When agents arrived at the location, the found the boy naked and abandoned with a head wound. He was immediately aided by emergency medical personnel and then transported to the Diagnostics and Treatment Center (CDT) of Rincón; he was then taken to the Mayagüez Medical Center.
