Yes. It’s that moment we’ve all been waiting for. It feels like victory, a cherished sensation that resonates through the core. It’s sweet, savory and fulfilling. It’s like Christmas morning when you open the gift you wanted more than anything else, and although you knew it was likely to come, your heart goes flush with a sense of jubilation and relief. “Arrested Development,” one of the wittiest and most clever comedy sitcoms to ever hit the airwaves, will be making its way to the big screen for a final, blowout finale.
“I’m working on the movie right now,” creator Mitch Hurwitz said to Rolling Stone. “I can’t get into much more detail because I don’t want to scare anybody off. I don’t want to be presumptuous about it. I don’t own the property outright - it’s 20th Century Fox property. But everybody seems really into it and really eager to make a movie.”
Last year, while filming the fourth season, marking the show’s comeback since it had been cancelled in 2006, Hurwitz ran into problems coordinating schedules with the overly busy and large cast. Fortunately, filming a feature is less intensive than an entire season for television, thus Hurwitch remains optimistic this time around. “A TV season is a six-month commitment,” he said. “But I think it would be very doable to get them together for four or five weeks to make a movie.”
The movie, which would serve as the conclusion to the Bluth family conundrum drawn out in Season 4, has yet to receive the go ahead. While Hurwitz remains confident, he’s reluctant to provide any speculations on the potential release date. “I’m hoping it happens as soon as possible, but I want to be very careful about not putting out false information,” he said. “I want to get a time and tell everybody when it’s happening and not play with people. Right now, I’m trying to do something else for Netflix and a movie project and things. I’m always sort of superstitious about talking about this stuff before it happens. It’s the best way to guarantee it doesn’t happen.”
Regardless, Hurwitz’ words inspire hope and joy in hearts of “Arrested Development” fans worldwide. The world has not seen the last of the Bluths.
