'Orange Is the New Black' Season 2 Spoilers: Alex the 'Great Love' of Piper's Life, But It Could be Coming to an End

Television has portrayed prison life again and again. There are countless shows that capture the underbelly and prisoner relations in a world that entices those who have never found themselves trapped behind cold metal and concrete. What’s interesting, however, is that women in prison never get their slice of the prison drama pie. It’s always been testosterone driven gang violence and drug peddling. Now it’s their turn.

Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black” quickly climbed the ranks as the network’s most popular and successful series, trumping both “House of Cards” and “Arrested Development” as its most viewed content. The second fans finish gazing over every last second of every episode, they immediately need another dose. So naturally, Netflix delivered. Production on Season 2 has already begun, and as the pieces fall into place, most casting rumors rock the “Orange Is the New Black” universe.

Rumors of Laura Prepon’s return have spiraled out of control. Fans couldn’t imagine a prison without Alex fire and cunning, but early speculation hinted that she’d be leaving. Finally, Taylor Schilling, who plays Piper Chapman, has opened up about the rumors and has finally put them to bed.

And unfortunately, the future doesn’t look bright for Alex and Piper. “Alex is one of the great loves of Piper’s life, if not the great love, and I think that anytime you have a bond like that it never really ends,” Schilling said. “It continues to play out, it’s like the layers of an onion. I’m curious also to see where the writers take that relationship.”

While that might sound fine and dandy, the actress is unsure of a definite return. “Well, you know, I don’t really know anything about that,” Schilling said. “I just know that she’s an amazing actress and I’ve really had an incredible time working with her and I know that there’s no end to that relationship.”

Prepon will make an appearance regardless, whether she returns as a series regular or for one farewell episode. Either way, the love between Alex and Piper will continue along its roller coaster ride.
