Gareth Bale's move to Real Madrid should happen any day now, but it never would have been possible without the outspoken Zinedane Zidane.
The former Real Madrid superstar has been vocal about his desire to bring the Welshman to the Santiago Bernabeu and he recently noted that he will do everything to make Bale succeed in Madrid.
"I know what it is to be the most expensive player in the world and I can hopefully offer him advice and mentor him," Zidane said, according to The Mirror. "There's always a lot of attention with a big transfer fee. As a player you don't even think about the fee, but there is a hysteria that comes with it."
"The biggest football story of this summer has been Gareth Bale and when you join a club like Real Madrid the focus becomes even more intense," he added. "My door at Real Madrid will always be open for Gareth and during his first season he will need to use it. He was in the top three players in Europe last season, but he can reach even higher levels ... He will get even better. We are looking at a guy who can be the best player in the world for the next four or five years."
Zidane's comments, while not surprising, could create some problems within the organization. Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the two best players in the world, is the face of the franchise and could find himself spited by the arrival of the Welshman and his Sporting Director's comments.
Ronaldo has not commented on the arrival of Bale at Madrid when questioned by the media.
