Robert Lewandowski has confirmed that he will remain with his current team Borussia Dortmund. The Polish striker also reported that he had turned down offers from top managers in order to remain in the Bundesliga.
One of the offers that Lewandowski turned down came from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho. The forward reportedly received a message from Mourinho telling him that he wanted Lewandowski to join him wherever he went.
"I can confirm that I spoke to him [Mourinho]. We spoke a few times before. I have his number in my phone. It is a huge compliment for me that a manager with such a big name is texting me this way," said Lewandowski, according to The Daily Mail.
Another team that Lewandowski turned down was Manchester United.
"One year earlier I also spoke to [former Manchester manager] Sir Alex Ferguson and that was definitely a great feeling," Lewandowski revealed. "The retirement of Sir Alex didn't affect my decision not to come to England. He spoke to me one year ago, but it was not a good time."
He ultimately concluded that the German League offered everything that the more noted Spanish and English Leagues offered.
"The Premier League is huge of course, as is La Liga. But the Bundesliga has all the conditions, stadiums, fans and atmosphere to dominate for the next five years," he added.
Lewandowski is coming off a tumultuous summer in which he was promised a move to Bayern Munich by his current club. However, the team opted to keep the forward against his wishes.
