Cristiano Ronaldo could make a return to Manchester United.
According to The Guardian, the superstar has informed his former team that he is interested in returning to the Old Trafford.
"United are encouraged by the clear messages they have received about his affinity for the club and consider what he says to be genuine," The Guardian reported. "[Manchester United's] information is that, realistically, they think he would be tempted to spend possibly the last three or four years of his professional life in Manchester."
Many believed that the transfer saga had come to an end weeks ago; talks of a contract extension with Real Madrid seemed likely. However, the superstar recently refused to talk about his contract extensions with Madrid.
"I have more years to come," Ronaldo said, according to AS. "The contract renewal is not something that worries me now. Things take place naturally and sooner or later people will know about it. The situation does not worry me. Things are going well. I am happy and do not think that the world is ending."
Many have speculated that Ronaldo is frustrated with his team's impending acquisition of Gareth Bale. Bale's club Tottenham is expected to receive a record 100 million euro bid for the forward. While a contract extension would likely make Ronaldo the highest paid player on Madrid, he may feel uncomfortable at having to compete with Bale for the left winger position. Both players thrive on the left flank and it is believed that the acquisition of Bale may force Ronaldo to play center forward, a position he has not always been comfortable with.
