Scott Frank will rewrite the new "Assassin's Creed" movie.
Frank told Creative Screenwriting Magazine that he was thrilled to adapt a video game movie. "I'm rewriting 'Assassin's Creed' right now, and what I love about it is that I've never adapted a video game before and it has its own set of challenges," he stated. "Especially in the world of rewrites, I love trying to do something completely different if I can."
The new adaptation was originally written by playwright Michael Lesslie and will be produced by Frank Marshall, and Michael Fassbender, who will also star. No director has been announced.
The plot of "Assassin's Creed" rumored to revolve around a man who learns his ancestors were trained assassins after he is kidnapped by a secret organization with ties to the Knights Templar and sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts. However, the plot has not been confirmed.
Scott Frank previously wrote "Out of Sight," which earned him an Academy Award nomination. His other credits include "Dead Again," "Get Shorty," "Malice," "Minority Report," "Flight of the Phoenix," "The Interpreter," "The Lookout" and "Marley & Me."
Fassbender is best known for his work in "Inglourious Basterds," "Prometheus," "Hunger," "X-Men: First Class" and "Shame." He next appears in "The Counselors" and "12 Years a Slave." He is also slated to portray the title role of "Macbeth," and reprise his role as Magneto in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Marshall recently produced "The Bourne Legacy," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and "The Last Airbender."
New Regency will be in charge of financing the film while 20th Century Fox will distribute it on June 19, 2015.
