Police have arrested a man who broke into a home owned by Jennifer Lopez in the Hamptons and allegedly lived there for a week before he was caught. The intruder, who has been identified as John Dubis, was arrested on August 8 after employees discovered that the man had moved into the property's pool house, according to the New York Post.
The suspect, who is 49 years old, remains in a cell in the Suffolk County jail under a $100,000 bond pending an appearance in a Southampton court. Southampton police said the entertainer had an order of protection against Dubis. Information on why the order was originally obtained was not available. He has been arraigned on charges of burglary, criminal contempt and stalking.
Dubis, who is reported to be a retired firefighter from Rhode Island that's been on disability since last year, left his parked car in the driveway of the mansion for six days and slept on a mattress on the pool house. He even posted some pictures on the Internet.
Sources cited by the Post say that at the time of his arrest the man told police he was the father of Lopez's children and that she had left the house open for him to live there.
"Oh, my, come to think of it, I did find it odd when I saw a man standing outside her driveway with the gate closed," neighbor Nancy Haverman told the Post. "I figured he was just part of her security crew."
The Puerto Rican artist bought the mansion in May. The property is 12,000 square meters and includes eight bedrooms.
In other Jennifer Lopez news, it has been reported that J.Lo will announce a return to judging duties on the popular singing contest "American Idol" anytime this week. A person close to the production confirmed that a deal is close to being signed with Lopez, who was a judge for two previous seasons on the show. The source was not authorized to disclose information and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The source added that Lopez had decided to come back to the show because the production schedule allows her to spend more time with her 5 year old twins.
The singer has also been active lately as creative director of NUVOtv, an internet based channel geared towards Latinos audiences.
