Fans are unsure of what to expect from the fifth season of "Glee" now that Finn will be written out of the show due to Cory Monteith's untimely death. Monteith played the football jock turned Glee geek, and comprised half of the show's most popular couple. Finn was the boyfriend of principal character Rachel Berry, played by Lea Michele, who was Monteith's real-life girlfriend. Although it is not clear how Finn will be written out of the show, it is clear that the producers have planned a special tribute episode to his memory.
The third episode of the upcoming season will be dedicated to Monteith, who died in July from an overdose of heroin and alcohol. Although details about the episode have not been released, Entertainment Weekly reports that Jane Lynch, who plays Sue Sylvester on the series, tweeted about the memorial episode after reading the script, calling it the "most beautiful thing."
"Just read Cory Monteith memorial episode. Most beautiful thing. Thank you, @MrRPMurphy @BFalchuk Ian Brennan," Lynch wrote.
According to the New York Daily News, executive producer Ryan Murphy said that the episode will focus on the character's life, not his death.
"What we're doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died," Murphy said. "The idea being [that] how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we say very early on in the episode, 'This episode is about a celebration of that character's life."
"We loved Cory and we loved Finn, and it feels like a huge loss and a huge heartache not to have either of them," Murphy continued. "We're trying to craft an episode that's not just about us grieving, but about a lot of the young fans grieving."
Although the cast of "Glee" and their characters will continue to grieve, there will still be many upbeat elements in the fifth season.
Celebuzz reports that Blaine (Darren Criss) and Kurt (Chris Colfer) are still together in the fifth season. The actors were spotted engaging in a kiss while filming a scene from The Beatles tribute episode.
The actors sang a duet of "Got To Get You Into My Life" for the episode dedicated to the legendary music group, which ended with a romantic lip lock.
Last season ended with Blaine approaching Kurt with a jewelry box hidden behind his back. The romantic nature of their duet in The Beatles episode adds to the assumption that Blaine proposed to Kurt.
The fifth season of "Glee" premieres on Fox on Sept. 26 with the first half of the two-part Beatles tribute. Demi Lovato will be making her debut as a guest star in the second half of The Beatles installment.
