A television show’s longevity is an interesting thing. It depends on so many factors. Its characters, themes and plot lines obviously play an integral role, however, other secondary factors always need to be taken into consideration. Timeslots, advertising and even cultural time periods can make or break a show. Successful, long lived series are scarce, but if the ingredients are mixed perfectly, a masterpiece can always arise.
"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" is now approaching its 14th season and its popularity is still booming. For those diehard fans who can't get enough of the crime drama are already looking ahead into what's in store for the new season, it's your lucky day. As more and more details trickle down from the set, the pieces of the season 14 puzzle are falling into place.
As the new season unfolds, D. B. Russell will find himself in a professional rut, but his problems won’t end there. When Peri Gilpin reprises her role as Russell’s wife Barbara, matter on the homefront feed into his misery.
“Barbara never wanted to be in Las Vegas. Seattle really is her home,” said executive producer Don McGill during an interview with TV Guide. “We’ve always suggested that Russell came to Vegas as a Phil Jackson-like, short-term coach putting the team back together… But Barabara will pose a question to Russell that is a bit of a ‘put up or shut up’ moment in terms of whether they will continue their lives together in Las Vegas. The purpose for Barbara to stay in Las Vegas may no longer be there.”
But Russell won’t be the only one to find himself in trying circumstances. As the season begins, Morgan Brody and Ellie find themselves in a difficult situation as the serial killer portrayed by Tim Matheson takes them for a trip through the nine circles of hell in Dante's Inferno, according to Stabley Times. The killer stages his murders based on the epic poem. Morgan is captured during her pursuit of the killer while Ellie, a recurring prostitute on the show, suffers the same fate.
"CSI" will return to CBS September 25.
