Hannah Anderson, the 16-year-old teen who was rescued in the Idaho wildness after being kidnapped by a family friend, attended a community car wash fundraiser held on Saturday to raise money for her and her family.
A nationwide Amber Alert was sent out Aug. 4 for the California teen after she was kidnapped by James DiMaggio, 40, who is also suspected of murdering the girl's mother and 8-year-old brother. DiMaggio was the best friend of Anderson's father and was like an uncle to her and her brother Ethan.
In order to raise money for the funeral services for Anderson's mother Christina and brother Ethan, friends raised nearly $1,000 at the car wash. Anderson, herself, also stopped by to show her gratitude for the support. The mother and son are expected to be laid to rest Saturday in Santee, Calif, according to CBS News.
"It's wonderful that [the community] is out here helping her. She just wanted to come out and thank these people personally," her father, Brett Anderson, told NBC San Diego. He added, "Every moment is difficult for her."
When asked by a NBC reporter if she had anything to say to the public following her case, Hannah Anderson said only, "Just thank you. Thank you."
Ironically, a spokesman for DiMaggio's family says a member of Anderson's family is the beneficiary of his life insurance. DiMaggio left $112,000 to Hannah Anderson's paternal grandmother Bernice Anderson who was named as his beneficiary in 2011 instead of his sister, reports USA Today.
