Now that "How I Met Your Mother" fans know the identity of the coveted mother, the show will be making a major shift. For eight seasons, "HIMYM" has revolved around a single driving factor, and now that the secret's out, season 9 will reveal how the aftermath unfolds. It's going to be interesting last season as many looming questions remain.

All of season 8 built up to Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin's (Cobie Smulders) wedding, and they never got hitched. Ted (Josh Radnor) has repeatedly expressed his love for Robin, but fans will have to wait for season 9 to learn if he will breakup her wedding. And there will be plenty of time to do so as the new season will place entirely over the course of Barney and Robin's wedding weekend.

In anticipation of its bittersweet finale, Smulders recently opened up about the epic wedding ahead during an interview with IGN. "I think that there's this stress of the wedding happening, and it's enough to create stress. But I don't know, things are definitely weird between her and Ted," Smulders said. "They haven't seen each other, so we shot a few scenes where they finally saw each other. There's definitely a lot of tension between them. But it's also like, they've all been friends for so long that it's par for the course. She dated Ted, then she dated Barney, she's kind of back to Ted for a second, and then -- you know, there's a lot going on. But I don't know what's going to happen at the actual wedding."

In terms of leaving the show, Smulders seems indifferent. She of course will look back on the past eight seasons with a smile. She's aware that "sitcoms don't have a lot of time" and that things feel like they always have on set, but also admits that the farewell hasn't fully sunk in.

"You know what, it sort of feels like business as usual right now, except for the fact that we're shooting on a completely different stage, which is weird. It's like, 'Where's craft service? Where's the bathroom? I can't find these things.' So that's been a bit of a superficial difference," she said. "We have so many sets. We're at this wedding, so it's basically all these sets for this weekend getaway place. So that's been weird, but we're just sort of like, 'Let's just do it.' There's so much to do that we're just doing it. Every once in awhile it hits me, 'Oh, this is the last season.' I feel like around the holidays it's going to start to really sink in."

"How I Met Your Mother" returns to CBS September 23.
