Iconic British sci-fi series "Doctor Who" will feature its landmark 50th episode this upcoming season, and it is promised to be a big one.
The series' upcoming eighth season will feature a reunion of the doctors in the 50th episode, which will air in November. The tenth Doctor, David Tennant, will be featured in the episode, along with his successor, eleventh Doctor Matt Smith. Co-stars Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper and John Hurt will also make appearances in the episode. Tennant, who is currently starring in the BBC America crime drama "Broadchurch," shared his feelings about filming the episode with Entertainment Weekly.
While it has been reported that there has been hostility on set while filming past reunion specials, the Scottish actor said that the filming of the most recent special had nothing of the sort.
"I suppose you'd expect me to say we're new best friends and I love him like a brother," Tennant said. "But that is sort of how it was. I had a fantastic time and that wouldn't necessarily have been the case. I'm coming back onto a show that's effectively somebody else's show and used to be mine and that's potentially quite a weird situation to be in. Going back to something I knew so well and had such fun memories of might have backfired. It's a quite rare set of circumstances: Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig don't get to play James Bond next to each other. But actually it felt familiar enough that it was like coming home and working with Matt proved to be a real joy.
"I hope I'm speaking for him when I say we really enjoyed bouncing of each other and playing sort of two aspects of the same character," Tennant continued. "It was everything that I hoped it might be and nothing that I feared it could be."
Although creator Steven Moffat refuses to divulge important details about the special, it was leaked that Daleks will be featured in the episode.
The 50th anniversary special will be followed by an extra-special Christmas special, which is when Peter Capaldi will be introduced as the tweflth incarnation of the Doctor. Capaldi, known for his role as caustic spin-doctor Malcolm Tucker on the BBC political comedy "The Thick Of It," is expected to bring his trademark sarcasm and quirkiness to the role. Capaldi, 55, is a Scottish actor, like Tennant.
The 50th anniversary special will air on BBC America on November 23.
