The David Moyes era officially begins as Manchester United takes on Swansea City in its first match of the Premier League 2013-14.
Moyes' squad beat a second division Wigan Athletic last week, but the real test will come this Saturday against Premier League competition. Moyes has a tough act to follow as his predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson guided Manchester to a Premier League title last season and is widely recognized as one of the great managers of all time.
"With his Everton teams, David Moyes did well when he came here and they were probably the most convincing team we have played in the Premier League at the Liberty," said Leon Britton, according to ESPN. "He seemed to get his tactics spot on, but hopefully come Saturday that won't be the case...It will be all eyes on Manchester United to see how things go now Sir Alex Ferguson has left.
"It is a great occasion to be involved in, it's a new era at that football club and the eyes of the whole world will be on us. If we can cause an upset and get a result that would be great."
Moyes has dealt with a tremendous amount of drama this offseason, including the failed attempts to land Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and the embarrassing Wayne Rooney transfer saga that seems to have come to standstill.
Prediction: Manchester United is the favorite, but Swansea City is a Europa League contender. Look for this game to end in a 1-1 draw.
