On August 11, singer-songwriter Demi Lovato took the stage during the 2013 Teen Choice Awards to perform her latest song "Made in the USA" from her new album titled "Demi." Fans went wild when the 20-year-old star was joined on stage by a very special guest: Nick Jonas.
The youngest Jonas Brother took the drums to accompany his longtime friend during her performance at the ceremony held in the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. At the end of their performance, Lovato thanked Jonas.
The former Disney sweetheart not only perform at the award show, she also took home several awards, including Choice Female Artist, Choice Single, Female Artist for "Heart Attack," Choice TV Personality, Female ("The X Factor") and Candie's Choice Style Icon.
"Thank you, so this is pretty cool," she said during her speech. "I want to take this surfing with Rebel Wilson if she'll take me up on it. You guys inspire me to keep going every single day. I love all of you. I also dedicate this award to a new little angel in heaven named Lola. We love you."
Later, Lovato joined "X Factor" alums Fifth Harmony to present the Acuvue Inspire Award to Jonas.
The "Heart Attack" singer, who hosted last year's ceremony, wore a black leather jacket and matching leggings. She styled her hair in a punky blond mullet, nailing the sexy rocker look, according to Pop Crush.
Lovato dated Nick's older brother Joe right before her breakdown in 2010. The pair also participated in several movies and remained friends ever since.
The singer entered rehab for eating disorders and self-harm, the Huffington Post reported. She had been struggling with "emotional and physical issues" since childhood and sought help to deal with her demons.
"It's something I don't really want to talk about," the star told Fabulous Magazine during an interview last year. "What I can say is that I was depressed. I would come off stage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I'd come crashing down and would try to find a way to recreate that feeling, to stay 'up'."
"Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my ass," she added.
But luckily Lovato is back on track, and this year she will return for another season of "The X Factor," where she will once again be judge alongside singers Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland and show legend Simon Cowell.
"I've raised my bar, I put a lot of people through last year that had the overall package but didn't have the best voices. And now I've raised the bar where I am not putting anyone through that I don't think has a winning vocal capability, and so I say no to a lot of people," she told MTV News.
