Deyra Barrerra revealed how she has been preparing for the role of Jenni Rivera in the upcoming biopic "La Diva de la Banda."
During an interview with Telemundo, the actress showed off the wardrobe she plans to wear for the film and stated that most of her research on the character came from watching the reality TV show "I Love Jenni." She stated, "I saw Jenni's movie 'Filly Brown' and the reality show. In the show I can see how Jenni really was in her daily life. That's where you really see who she was and how she interacted with her family and her fans. I have been able to learn from it."
Barrera continued, "My role is not going to require me to act as Jenni. But I have been studying her movements and one of the things I noticed was that she loved to drink tequila."
Barrera also told Telemundo that she was not watching gossip shows anymore because she was criticized for not looking like the deceased singer. She said, "At the beginning I used to watch them but then I started hearing very ugly comments. At the beginning I didn't mind it but later I realized that it was part of the business and therefore I stopped watching it. "
"La Diva de la Banda" is a highly controversial film because it was not authorized by the singer's family. Francisco Joel Mendoza will direct the movie, which also stars Mireya Limon, Joaquín Cosío (El Infierno), Gustavo Sánchez Parra (Amores perros) and Mario Zaragoza (Cloroformo) in major roles. The movie is set to start production this month and will be released on Dec. 6 in Mexico.
