England coach Roy Hodgson has revealed that star forward Wayne Rooney is no longer injured.
The news is the latest development in an ongoing transfer saga. The striker was reportedly injured and missed out on the Community Shield match between Manchester United and Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
"Good, just as I expected really," said Hodgson when asked about Rooney's condition. "It's difficult to assess with the naked eye how match-fit people are, but there's no doubt in my mind that he's not suffering from a physical injury."
Hodgson's statements indicate that Manchester United's comments may have simply been a cover for the brewing controversy. The player has not trained with the club or taken part in any preseason games as a result of a reported shoulder injury.
Hodgson added: "Since he's got over the injuries he's not been able to train as intensively as we did today, so we'll see how that pans out. He tells me that he's been training on his own while Manchester United have had games, on some fitness work, but he hasn't had a chance to do a session like we had today where he was involved in functional aspects of play.
"I expect him to tell me that everything was fine and I expect him to get up fit and ready to go tomorrow morning as well."
Rooney has reportedly set his heart on leaving Manchester United and moving to Chelsea, a club that has been working hard to acquire him this season.
However, Manchester United is unwilling to sell one of its top players to a direct rival.
