CBS crime drama "Person of Interest" will be returning for season three with a character reunion and copious amounts of intrigue.

TV Line reports that Paige Turco will be returning to the show as Zoe Morgan. Turco was in Vancouver co-starring in the CW science fiction series "The 100." This time around, Morgan will get to work with Carter (Taraji P. Henson) and Shaw, (Sarah Shahi) who is now a series regular.

The "Person of Interest" writers broke the news of Turco's return by tweeting a photo from the third episode of the upcoming season. Executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman commented on the photo. "In this episode, 'Lady Killer,' what better way for Reese and Finch to lure a playboy POI than to call upon their secret weapons - Carter, Shaw and their old friend Zoe?"

Another formidable female crime solver will be joining the "Person of Interest" crew for good.  It was announced at Comic-Con that Amy Acker, who plays hacker and contract killer Root, was promoted to series regular along with Sarah Shahi. Acker shared her excitement with TV.com

"I was really happy that I got the phone call [from The Machine] at the end [of the finale], so I feel like they have to at least bring me back," Acker said. "The great thing about science fiction shows is I really don't know even what the character is going to be [at any moment]. I feel like I took such a crazy journey [as Root] this year, learning all this stuff I did in the finale about The Machine and Harold. And now that she's had lots of therapy, we'll see!"

Acker's counterpart, Shahi, who plays operative Samantha Shaw, also commented at Comic-Con on how excited she is to be a series regular, and what lies in store for her character at the start of season three. Shahi signed a four-year contract with the series.

"As of now, the way it's situated, in the season opener, I'm a member of the team. Not really a member, but an additional hand," Shahi said. "I know I'm going to be going undercover a lot this year. Another reason they wanted to bring me onto the show, they wanted another strong female dynamic on the show. I'm going to be going into the places that Reese can't go."

Executive producer and co-showrunner Greg Plageman clarified at Comic-Con what happened at the end of the mystifying season two finale, when The Machine made three calls, including one to Root. "When we resume at the beginning of [Season 3]-Finch handicapped [The Machine] to a degree, but it's still going to issue a relevant number, it's still going to issue an irrelevant number, but there's a third aspect of what it's trying to do, and I think that's going to be the fun of Season 3," Plageman said. He also said that Reese and Finch will still get the "irrelevant" numbers, Hersh, Penn Six, and the other government workers will still get the "relevant" numbers; and Root will get the new data.

Although "Person of Interest" still has many more plot lines to be fleshed out, EP Nolan said that he knows how the show will end. He also shared that he knows what will happen at "a lot of points along the way."

"Person of Interest" returns on September 24 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
