California police are still searching for Hannah Anderson, a 16-year-old girl who is believed to have been abducted by a family friend named James Lee DiMaggio.

DiMaggio, 40, is also accused of killing Anderson's mother and setting fire to the family's home. Officials additionally warned on Friday that he may have booby-trapped his get-away car with explosives.

Police found evidence found at the charred scene of Hannah Anderson's home that suggests Mr. DiMaggio may have fled with homemade explosive material, reports The Washington Times.

The suspect is wanted on charges of murder and arson. He is accused of killing Hannah's mother, Christina Anderson, 44, and burning the family home, located about 65 miles outside San Diego, on Sunday night. Emergency responders also found remains they say belong to a child, but it's too soon to tell if those remains are the body of Hannah's 8-year-old brother, Ethan, who has not been seen or heard from since the fire.

Police believe that Mr. DiMaggio is holding the teen girl hostage and say that he has "an unusual infatuation" with her.

"That is kind of a working theory, that it may be something of a motivator," said San Diego County Sheriff's Capt. Duncan Fraser.

The search for the missing San Diego-area teenager and her alleged kidnapper stretched into the Idaho wilderness Friday, and authorities said there were indications that DiMaggio planned his acts.

"We believe that this was a planned event and that there was preparation involved," Capt. Fraser told reporters, according to the LA Times. "There was some preparation on his part that went into this."

But, he noted, "we don't know what the motive is at this point. It's speculation only."

Sheriff's officials said DiMaggio purchased camping equipment within the last few weeks.

A huge break also came Friday morning when DiMaggio's blue Nissan Versa was found in Idaho at about 8 a.m.
