A Kickstarter campaign has been started to give Nintendo's celebrated "Metroid" franchise the silver screen treatment.

Before everyone starts filling out their calendars for a theatrical release, it is essential to know that the project "Metroid: Enemies Within" will only be a 10 minute-short film.

According to the campaign's page, here's what the story would look like: "Samus Aran, a bounty hunter for the Galactic Federation, wakes up on an unknown ship after being rendered unconscious in a battle with a powerful being named the Gorea. She discovers she is being held hostage on the ship of a rival bounty hunter named Sylux, and learns of his plot to destroy the Federation while implicating her in the process. Samus fights to escape in order to save herself and the Federation before it's too late."

"We believe Metroid deserves to be made and we want to give it the Hollywood treatment," the campaign says. "With the enormous talent and resources of the assembled creatives, we are confident that we can deliver an exciting proof-of-concept with production value on par with today's top commercial films."

The team is asking for $90,000 and has until Sept. 8 to reach the goal. The money will be spent on creating realistic armor for the famous bounty hunter. It will also be spent on a massive corridor that is said to be the principal location for the film. Special effects and CGI will also factor into the costs.

"We need your help to show Hollywood that Metroid should be made into a feature film," said director Christian Cardona in the video.

Metroid was supposed to get the screen treatment back in 2003 when such producers as John Woo, Warren Zide and Craig Perry all optioned the rights for the Nintendo property. However, the project was never made.
