Less than a week after the Obama administration vetoed a ruling that would ban the U.S. imports of certain Apple devices, the Cupertino-based organization is reportedly looking to block the sales of Samsung smartphones.

Apple and Samsung have a date with the U.S. appeals court on Aug. 9. Apple is seeking a sales ban of the Samsung devices that were found guilty of infringing Apple's patents during the 2012 trial in San Jose, Calif.

As Latinos Post reported, the Aug. 9 court date was set after U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh, who presided the patent infringement lawsuit last year, negated giving Apple the injunction to ban specific Samsung devices.

Apple originally won $1.05 billion against Samsung in last year's patent infringement trial. Judge Koh, however, reduced the amount by 40 percent, or approximately $450.5 million. Apple has yet to collect any of the money.

"August 9 will be the most important Apple v. Samsung event in a long time -- in fact, since last summer's jury trial, and it's arguably even more important because whatever Apple achieved at last year's trial is meaningless without useful, forceful remedies," stated Florian Mueller of FOSS Patents.

The Aug. 9 court date comes as the Obama administration vetoed the U.S. International Trade Commission's (ITC) ruling to ban the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPad 2. The ban would have halted the imports of the three Apple devices inside the U.S.

Apple, meanwhile, has another patent case against Google Inc. On Aug. 7, the U.S. appeals court ruled Apple can renew its arguments to the ITC that Google's Motorola Mobility division violated two iPhone patents. Apple filed the case against Motorola in October 2010.
