Real Madrid won the International Champions Cup final with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea.
The opening of the game featured an aggressive Real Madrid side causing havoc in the Chelsea end. Marcelo eventually broke through in the 14th minute off a terrific feed from Luka Modric that cut through a gap in the Chelsea defense and sent the Brazilian in on goal with only one defender to worry about. Marcelo fired with his left foot and found the far side corner to give Madrid a 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short lived as a mistake from the Madrid defenders left Ramires on a breakaway against goalie Iker Casillas.
Ramires simply lofted the shot past Casillas and tied the game at one. The goal seemed to give life to the English side and Chelsea got a few chances including a shot from Frank Lampard that gave Casillas some trouble. The goalie blocked the shot but left a loose rebound in the slot. He dove and managed to salvage a shot the opposition. Cristiano Ronaldo eventually gave Madrid the lead off a free kick on the left wing. The Portuguese superstar was kept in check throughout the evening by defender Branislav Ivanovic forcing Ronaldo to alternate with right winger Mesut Ozil throughout the first half.
Chelsea started the second half with a more aggressive pace and forced a number of saves from goalie Iker Casillas including a breakaway stop against Eden Hazard. However, Cristiano Ronaldo made Chelsea pay in the 57th minute with a header goal to extend Madrid's lead to 3-1. Ronaldo set up Alvaro Morata for a goal late in the game that was ruled offside.
Madrid started its tournament with a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy. In the semifinal, the Spanish giants defeated Everton 2-1 to advance to the final.
Chelsea started its tournament with a 2-0 win over Inter Milan and repeated the effort in a 2-0 victory against AC Milan.
