The trailer to "Diana" has been released.

The film starring Naomi Watts tells the story of Princess Diana's last two years of her life. The film studies Diana's campaign against land mines and her relationship with surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan.

The movie has been one of the most talked about films this year as pundits speculate that Watts is the likely front-runner for Best Actress. However buzz has cooled in the past month after the movie failed to make the cut for the fall festivals including Venice and Toronto. Additionally, Entertainment One aquired the US distribution rights for the movie but has failed to set a US release date. The first teaser trailer also disconcerted pundits as many stated that it was lackluster and uneventful.

There is still hope for the film to qualify to for awards as Telluride Film Festival has yet to announce its slate; the London Film Festival could also showcase the movie. Additionally many distribution companies are currently juggling the calendar in order to position their awards films correctly.

Whether EOne will release the film this year or not will most likely become clear in the upcoming weeks.

Watts recently starred in "The Impossible" for which she received an Academy Award nomination. She has also been seen in "Sunlight Jr.," " Adore," "J. Edgar," and "King Kong."

"Diana" is directed by Oliver Kirschbiegel who is known for his work on "The Invasion," "Downfall," "Five Minutes in Heaven" and "The Experiment."

The film also stars Naveen Andrews, Geraldine James, Charles Edwards, and Daniel Pirrie. The movie is set for release in the UK on October 10.
