Johnny Manziel has been all over the front page of every major sports media outfit engaging in what seems like a series of public stunts over the past few weeks. In the blink of an eye, Johnny Football is the most talked about football player in the nation, and he did it mere weeks into his sophomore season at Texas A&M.
Manziel, who took the American football world by storm after becoming the first Freshman ever to win the coveted Heisman Trophy, has suddenly become a sensation, not just because of his superb quarterback skills, but unfortunately, for his brow-raising theatrics off the field.
Last month, news emerged that the 20-year-old was booted from a Texas frat party. Then, a few weeks later, the prodigious quarterback found himself facing an even bigger wave of criticisms after a photo showing him accepting money in exchange for his autograph circulated all over the Internet.
Suddenly, Manziel is not only on the spotlight, but also at the center of an investigation being conducted by the NCAA for a possible acceptance of improper benefits.
Twitter users are unhappy with the level of exposure Manziel's received lately, especially on ESPN, leading many to surmise that the Aggies quarterback is the "second coming" of football superstar Tim Tebow.
Like Manziel, Tebow received enormous publicity during in his college years in Florida. Tebow, who also happens to be a former Heisman Trophy winner, is still considered one of the most influential football players in the league, despite his struggles to evolve into a dominating presence on the field or a solid signal caller.
Still, the discrepancy between Tebow and Manziel is very apparent, with the New England Patriots back up quarterback getting so much positive publicity over his career, while the Texas A&M standout has become a "misfit" in the eyes of the public in a short time span.
If ESPN has their way Manziel will be Tim Tebow 2.0
