Clint Dempsey has officially signed with the Seattle Sounders.
According to ESPN, the midfielder was presented to fans on Sunday while sporting the number two on his jersey.
"Seattle, I just want to thank y'all and the Seattle Sounders organization for making me feel so welcome and at home," Dempsey said. "I look forward to getting on the field and playing in front of some of the best fans in the world," he continued. "I think we'll accomplish some great things here."
The 30-year-old American played in the MLS for the New England Revolution from 2004-06, where he scored 25 goals in 71 matches. Afterward he moved to the premier league where he played for Fulham from 2007-1, scoring 50 goals in 184 games. Last season he moved to Tottenham and managed seven goals in 29 matches.
"We have reached agreement with Major League Soccer for the transfer of Clint Dempsey," said a statement by Tottenham. "We wish Clint every success for the future."
Dempsey arrives at a club that currently sits in seventh place in the nine-team Western Conference. He is expected to help the team to a playoff berth and will reunite with U.S. national teammate Eddie Johnson.
"I'm good friends with Eddie Johnson, and he always tells me what it's like playing here, playing in front of the fans, just how it's an atmosphere that's comparable to what it is in Europe," Dempsey said on June 11.
"It's great to see that the game is building and that there are markets like this where people have passion for the game. I almost felt like I was in another country the other day when the Seattle Sounders game was on," he noted about the passionate fan base.
