Soon after the announcement for the "Batman vs. Superman" movie, people began speculating: Who will play Batman?
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new film is seeking an actor in their 40s. The publication's insiders explained the script was currently being written and that nothing was set yet. The publication also stated that "director Zack Snyder is only just beginning to look at actors."
Insiders also noted: "this Wayne/Batman will be in the late 30s or around the 40 mark. He will be established and rugged. This new movie will not seek to recount an origin story or the rise of the Dark Knight. Christian Bale, 'The Dark Knight' trilogy Batman, has said he won't return for another film."
Sources also told the Hollywood Reporter that the movie was aiming to recreate the Frank Miller mini-series, "The Dark Knight Returns."
The source also revealed that various A-list actors were potential candidates. The number one candidate was Josh Brolin, 46, who has starred in a number of studio films and Warner Bros. movies. He has also been featured in comic book movies including "Jonah Hex" and is set to appear in the upcoming "Sin City: A Dame to Kill." However, Warner Bros. has already denied the claims and said it is not yet begun casting.
Other sources said that Brolin would not do the role because he was recently divorced from Diane Lane who will return for the film.
"Batman vs. Snyder" is currently in pre-production and is set to star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne. David Goyer will write the film, which Warner Bros. will distribute in 2015.
