Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed the club is currently in talks with Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale.
"It is difficult to talk about Bale because at the moment he is not a Real Madrid player, but I believe the club is in talks to find a solution and we will see what happens," stated Ancelotti, according to ESPN. "I am not used to talking about players who are not in my team and it would not be right to do so."
Tottenham is reportedly asking for 100 million euros plus a player from the Spanish giants. Early reports indicated that Fabio Coentrao was the player of choice, while later speculation indicated that Luka Modric was a preferred target for Hotspur. Others reported that Alvaro Morata was the deal sweetener. Ancelotti mentioned that Modric was headed nowhere.
"It is not true that Modric is going," he stated. "He is a very important player for us and he will be here this season."
Ancelotti did not comment on the other two players.
With talks heating up it is looking more and more likely that Bale will join Cristiano Ronaldo at the Bernabeu. This has created speculation about whether the two superstars would be able to work together. Bale is a natural on the left wing, a spot that Ronaldo has established as his own. The addition of Bale would force one of the two players out of their normal position. Some have suggested that Bale slide to the right side and keep the two superstars on the flanks; that would force current right winger Angel Di Maria onto the bench. Another less convenient option would be pushing Bale into the middle. However, the attacking central midfielder slot is being contested by Isco and Mesut Ozil. Another option still would be to put Bale at the forward position; that option would limit Karim Benzema's starts.
