Eminem's latest "battle" has nothing to do with rap, proving his mic skills or his longterm struggle with substance abuse. This battle is way more light-hearted and asks Slim Shady fans to fight on his behalf. The emcee is featured in a tweet battle with other worldwide superstar musicians as a part of MTV UK's "Hottest Summer Superstar" contest.
As MTV UK explains:
"MTV's panel of music experts have hand picked 50 of this summer's "hottest" music artists. From the shortlist below simply tweet #MTVHottest followed by the name of the artist you want to vote for and see them battle it out in our live leaderboard! Voting is based on hashtag tweet volume and closes Aug. 18. The winner will be revealed Aug. 31 on MTV Music."
As of Wednesday morning, Slim Shady ranked No. 9 with 1.1 million tweets, lagging behind Katy Perry, The Wanted, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Demi Lovato, Lady Gagy and Justin Bieber. One Direction has taken lead with almost 16 million tweets, reports MLive.com.
News of Slim Shady taking part in the contest comes a few weeks before he kicks off his mini European tour. Earlier this year, Shady president Paul Rosenberg also hinted that the rapper's album may be released after the tour overseas.
"We fully expect to be releasing a new Eminem album in 2013. He's been working on it for some time," Rosenberg told Billboard during an interview in February. "It's safe to say that it will be post-Memorial Day at some point, but we're not exactly sure when. We've got some dates locked in for him to perform live in Europe in August, so we're trying to see what else lines up."
Eminem's fans will get to see the rap icon perform along with Kendrick Lamar and Tyler, The Creator during the mini-tour. Here's where he's scheduled to play:
