It may not be the "Buffy" reunion that fans were expecting but actor Freddie Prinze Jr. will be making an appearance on his wife's former co-star's show "Bones." Prinze, who is married to former "Buffy" lead star Sarah Michelle Gellar, nabbed a guest role in show's upcoming ninth season. Fans will remember that Gellar played Buffy opposite love interest David Boreanaz (who played Angel) in the vampire drama.
Gellar recently opened up about her husband's new job with her former co-star while promoting her own new show "Crazy Ones" during the CBS Television Critics Assoc. press tour party. "As long as they don't make out I think it'll be fun," the actress told TVLine.
She also revealed that the potentially recurring turn was negotiated poolside. "This actually all came about from David, Freddie and I hanging out two weeks ago," Gellar explained. "David sort of [floated the idea to us]. And I was like, 'Sure!' And Freddie was like, 'Yes!' It was literally a poolside conversation."
As previously reported, Prinze nabbed a guest role in the upcoming season "in a potential multi-episode arc." The actor will play Danny, "a very covert CIA agent," who is an old colleague of Booth's (Boreanaz), TVLine reported. Danny will make his first appearance during the September 16 season opener, when he'll show interest in the murder investigation Booth and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) are working on.
According to TVLine, Prinze is only scheduled to appear in one episode, the fall premiere, but there might be a possibility for a second. Prinze is not the only actor set to appear in the September opener, actor Mather Zickel, who was cast as former confessor Aldo Coulter, will also make an appearance.
"Bones" season nine premieres on Monday, September 16 at 8 p.m. on Fox. Then on November 8, the show moves to its new Friday at 8 p.m. time slot.
