"Homeland" quickly shot up the ranks as one of Showtime's more popular series. It takes a unique approach to the inner workings of the Central Intelligence Agency and has established itself as one of television's best dramas, winning several Emmys and Golden Globe awards. The third season is still a summer away, but that doesn't stop eager fans from digging for details on the show's future. There's plenty that can happen during the, and now co-creator Alex Gansa and actor Damian Lewis have provided fans with an early glimpse of what's on the "Homeland" horizon.
During the Television Critics' Association's summer press tour on Monday, Gansa claimed that it "would be a betrayal" to inform fans when exactly Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody would return to the show. However, he did hint that it will not happen in the first two episodes of the upcoming third season, according to TVLine.
"Brody is on the lam," Lewis added, having disappeared into an exfiltration process that Carrie imposed at the end of season 2 after a bomb in Brody's car exploded at the CIA and killed more than 100 people. "He's the most wanted criminal in the world, at this point, so he has to lay low. When you do see Brody, hopefully of interest to the audience is, 'What state will he be in? Is he surrounded by a bevy of Russian beauties? Or is he hidden away?' But I do hope when you see him for the first time, it will be interesting."
Now a new teaser for the season 3 premiere gives fans a little taste of the criminal's current state. The clip features a handful of audio clues that hint at his condition. The lines "Does Carrie know I'm here?," I just need to get my strength back," and the ominous echoing "Survive" are particularly intriguing. Check out the clip below.
"Homeland" returns to Showtime September 29.
