While the BBC's popular "Sherlock" season (series) three is a whiles away for American audiences, the network has provided some details on the upcoming season. Earlier this month, the show's co-creators and executive producers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, as well as EP Sue Vertue, appeared in their very first Comic-Con panel to reveal some exciting details on what's to come.
Now, BBC One has revealed some photos of the upcoming season on its Facebook page. Last week the BBC channel shared a tweet by Gatiss announcing the cast's read through for the season's third episode. "'His Last Vow' readthrough done. Can't wait to get started again! #Sherlock," Gatiss tweeted to his followers. The EP and co-creator not only works behind the scenes, but also stars on the show as Sherlock's (Benedict Cumberbatch) brother Mycroft.
According to the BBC One Facebook page, production for the third episode begins this week. The show's third season will feature, like the seasons before it, three episodes. BBC One announced that the episodes would be called "The Empty Hearse," "The Sign of Three" and "His Last Vow."
On Monday, the network also revealed Sherlock's new nemesis Charles Augustus Magnussen (Lars Mikkelsen). You can catch a photo of the detective's new enemy here. According to the BBC, Mikkelsen's character is based on Arthur Conan Doyle's Charles Augustus Milverton, "a blackmailer who extorts money from wealthy nobles."
Not much else has been revealed about the upcoming season, although the Comic-Con panel did give fans a sneak peak into Dr. John Watson's (Martin Freeman) wedding, with Sherlock as his best man. As previously reported, the clip had Comic-Con attendees laughing, with Moffat saying that the forthcoming season will have "slightly more humor." The panel also promised fans that the season two cliffhanger would be resolved in the upcoming third season.
"Sherlock" season three returns to Masterpiece on PBS in 2014 with "The Empty Hearse."
