The United States reclaimed the CONCACAF Gold Cup after defeating Panama 1-0 in the final on Sunday.
The Americans dominated possession throughout the match with the Canaleros resorting to a defensive shell that frustrated their opponent all night long. Brek Shea proved to be the hero in the 69th minute when he came on as a substitute; the much-criticized midfielder also provided the lone goal in a crucial 1-0 win over Costa Rica a few weeks ago to win the top spot in Group C.
Landon Donovan had a quiet game throughout but finished the tournament with five goals and seven assists and took home the Golden Boot award in the tournament.
The Americans won the championship for the first time since 2007.
