John Williams will score the upcoming "Star Wars Episode VII" film.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the composer would write the music to "Episode VII," and said he would also score the two subsequent films. The producer for the upcoming movie confirmed the news in Essen, Germany during the "Star Wars" celebration.
The "Star Wars" website later posted a video in which Williams confirmed the news. "Of course, I haven't seen the script. The story is still unknown to me, the new story. But I can't imagine that there will be some references to the existing stories that we know that would necessitate, and make appropriate, the use of some of the earlier themes----- which actually for me has been part of the fun of doing film after film, because in each case I've been able to use the earlier material and develop new material that would co-exist with it and hopefully feel like a part of the fabric of the film," said Williams.
The composer added that he was extremely excited to work with Kennedy and director, J.J Abrams. "They're both, extremely gifted, have tremendous energy and even in the case of J.J who for me is very young and is very experienced," Williams said. "He has had some great success with large scale projects which are very difficult to logistically and mechanically to photographically all of it. Even though he is a very young man, he brings with him a lot of expertise, a lot of great background, so I think the combination of their youth and experience and their energy and gifts, if I had been asked, by the various boards of directors find me two people to take this project on to the next step, I would have certainly voted for them."
"Star Wars Episode VII" was scripted by Michael Arndt and is rumored to star Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford. Disney will release the film in 2015 with production commencing in 2014.
