The series premiere of the "Once Upon a Time" spinoff series "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” is just a few weeks away. Fans are eagerly waiting to see how the series will stack up to its mothership show as details slowly pour in. The show’s creators and cast sat down with TVLine to talk about what fans can expect and how it compares to “Once.”
“We can’t wait for people to come down the rabbit hole with us,” co-creator Edward Kitsis told TVine. Kitsis was joined by fellow co-creator Adam Horowitz, executive producer Steve Pearlman and cast members Sophie Lowe (Alice), Peter Gadiot (Cyrus), Emmy Rigby (the Red Queen) and Michael Socha (the Knave of Hearts).
“Wonderland” is described by its cast as “Alice’s quest for love,” where “two lovers [are] fighting the forces of evil to be together.” The ABC fantasy mini-series will follow Alice’s journey through Wonderland with the Knave of Hearts as she searches for her one true love, a genie named Cyrus.
As previously reported, the series’ first season will serve as a self-contained storyline, where fans will see Alice’s story from start to finish. Series co-creators have promised that the show will not only have a concluded storyline by the end of the season, but will also answer all of fans' questions.
So how will the new show differ from the original? According to Kitsis, the show will have “its own vibe and its own unique tone.” Horowitz said that there might be some crossover with “Once” but “the show will stand on its own as its own thing.”
Kitsis also revealed some details about the newest addition to the "Wonderland" cast, Naveen Andrews ("Lost"). The EP said Andrews' character Jafar will be "frightening" and "quite scary." Andrews previous said, "I hope it will be something like you've never seen before."
"Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" premieres on Thursday, October 10 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
