Get your garlic and wooden crosses, because the vampires are coming. Production on the fifth season of "The Vampire Diaries" is well underway as the actors make their way back to Mystic Falls. Ample details have shed light on what's to come for the world's most popular vampires and will continue to pour in up until the premiere. It's a big year as several members of the gang head off to college while others make their way down to New Orleans, so naturally fans are eager for the show's return. In the meantime, however, they'll have to rely on measly rumors, interviews and photos. It's better than nothing.
In a recent interview, executive producer Caroline Dries talked a bit about where the new season will pick up and what fans can expect from their favorite characters.
"We're coming back three months later, so we'll touch base on what the characters have been doing all summer," Dries said. "We realize that poor Stefan has been drowning, dying and coming back to life. But everyone else has been having a totally fun time. Elena and Damon are a super sexy couple and happy for onces. Caroline is ready to start school. Nobody knows that Bonnie is dead, so it's bliss, but then there's Stefan just dying."
What does this mean for the seemingly doomed vampire? Well the constant drowning and waking up cycle will cause a serious psychological damage, according to executive producer Julie Plec. And why won't anyone help poor Stefan? They won't notice he's gone. As Silas wreaks havoc as Stefan's doppelganger, no one will want anything to do with him.
When the tormenting drowning cycle will end is unclear. Fans will have to wait until the new season arrives for the answers.
"The Vampire Diaries" will return to The CW October 10.
