The Toronto Film Festival has announced 75 films that will be featured in its 38th edition.
The festival will open on Sept. 5 with Bill Condon's upcoming feature "The Fifth Estate," which stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Alicia Vikander, Laura Linney, Stanley Tucci, and Anthony Mackie.
The festival will also feature many films that are considered Oscar contenders. Among them will be the world premieres for "August Osage County" starring Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, as well as director Steve McQueen's "12 Years A Slave" starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender. Jason Reitman's "Labor Day" starring Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet and the Idris Elba starrer' "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" will also make their world premieres.
Universal Pictures will bring Ron Howard's "Rush," while Focus Features will offer "Dallas Buyer's Club" starring Matthew McConaughey.
Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" will land in Toronto after premiering at the Venice Film festival, while several Cannes favorites will also be featured in the program. Among them are Asghar Farhadi's award winning film "The Past," Jim Jarmush's vampire movie "Only Lovers Left Alive" and Palme d'Or winner "Blue is the Warmest Color."
Sundance favorites "Kill Your Darlings" starring Daniel Radcliffe, and "Don Jon" will also be featured.
Various films will premiere at the festival seeking distribution. Among them include "Can a Song Save Life" starring Hailee Steinfield, Keira Knightley, Adam Levine and Mark Ruffalo, and Atom Egoyan's "The Devil's Knot." The double feature "The Disappearance of Elanor Rigby Him and Her" starring Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy will be presented as a work in progress while "The Railway Man" starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman will make its highly anticipated debut.
The Toronto Film Festival is known as a launching pad for the Academy Award campaigns. Many of the Best Picture winners including "Argo," "The King's Speech," "Slumdog Millionaire" and "American Beauty" made debuts at the festival.
The festival will conclude on Sept. 15.
