Verizon Wireless has revealed the number of smartphones sold during the second quarter of 2013, and Apple's smartphone proved its dominance.
According to Verizon's Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo, the carrier sold approximately 3.87 million iPhones during the latest quarter. The iPhone figures represent 51 percent of all smartphones activated with Verizon Wireless.

The total smartphone activations totaled to 7.5 million, with 72 percent carried along Verizon's 4G LTE network.
The second quarter featured the launch of smartphones that Verizon expects would help the carrier during the current third quarter, such as the Nokia Lumia 928, Blackberry Q10 and the Samsung Galaxy S4.
As Latinos Post reported, and reiterated during today's conference call, Verizon Wireless completed its 4G LTE network rollout, covering more than 99 percent of its current 3G footprint. The carrier activated 4G LTE data service in Alaska, subsequently providing Verizon Wireless 4G LTE across all 50 states. Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network, as of June 27, is now available in 500 markets, or roughly more than 95 percent of the U.S. population.
In late June, Verizon's Chief Technology Officer Nicola Palmer stated, "Now that we're done with our initial LTE build, we are looking to the Advanced Wireless spectrum to add depth and longevity to our network."
While Verizon tops the LTE coverage map, AT&T is second with 315 markets, which is a comfortable lead ahead of Sprint's 110 and T-Mobile's seven markets.
