"The Conjuring" has yet to be released and now New Line Cinema is planning a sequel.
According to Variety the production company has already started developing a sequel to "The Conjuring." Unlike most sequels that start developing before a movie comes out, the company is not afraid to admit its plans for the movie. The news source revealed that screenwriters Chad and Chan Hayes already signed on to write the next film. However it failed to mention if there would be any returning cast members.
Patrick Wilson recently said that he and Vera Farmiga could potentially reprise their roles if they made a new one. He explained, "I don't know who else would play him now. [Laughs] Vera and I wouldn't have signed on for one not knowing that they didn't want to do more. That's just the nature of the beast."
"The Conjuring" tells the story of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren who work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. As they investigate the case, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.
The movie opened at the Los Angeles Film Festival and scored rave reviews. Sheri Linden of the Hollywood Reporter said, "Taut and effective edge-of-the-seat horror, delivered with style and an especially haunting performance by Vera Farmiga."
Time Out New York's Joshua Rothkopf gave the movie 5 stars out of 5 and wrote, "It takes a retro-fashioned winner like The Conjuring to remind us that if the creaky, old house ain't broke, don't fix it."
The movie also stars Ron Livingston (Adaptation) and Lili Taylor (Being Flynn) and is directed by James Wan who is best known for "Insidious" and "Saw." Warner Bros will release "The Conjuring" nationwide July 19.
