Fans of Showtime's hit crime drama "Dexter" have eagerly watched as the show's final season unfolds. Just three episodes in, the Michael C. Hall starrer has captivated viewers with new characters and the shifting dynamic between Dex (Hall) and his sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter).
Following the season seven finale, which saw Deb kill detective Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) to protect her brother, things for Deb have been on a downward spiral. During the show's third episode, "What's Eating Dexter Morgan?," Deb hits a new low when she is arrested for being drunk behind the wheel. She's saved by ex-boyfriend Quinn (Desmond Harrington), who quickly realizes he needs to call Dex for backup.
The arrest and subsequent drunken near murder confession forces Dex to ask Dr. Vogel (guest star Charlotte Rampling) to help her get back to her old self. In the upcoming episode, entitled "Scar Tissue," Vogel will begin to treat Deb for her PTSD. In an interview with TV Guide, executive producer Sara Colleton explained, "Vogel steps in to say, 'Dexter can't deal with this; let me help.'"
Vogel takes on a tough love approach to Deb's recovery, a promo for the episode shows. A sneak peak of the upcoming episode also shows Vogel telling Dexter that there's a chance that Deb's recovery may rely on him not being a part of her life.
In return, Dexter will continue to help Vogel take out her past serial killer patients. Showtime teases, "Dexter tracks down another potential serial killer from Dr. Vogel's list." However, in a promo for the episode, Dexter is seen questioning Vogel's motives. Is he just another chapter in one of her books? And what are her motives behind helping Deb?
Fans will just have to wait and see. "Dexter" S8E4, "Scar Tissue," airs on Sunday, July 21 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
