With Comic-Con starting this week, the team behind "Godzilla" is preparing to surprise fans at the exposition.
In a video diary revealed online, director Gareth Edwards confirmed that principal production was almost complete. "This is near the end of principal photography and what has been a truly epic shoot," said Edwards. He added that Legendary Pictures is planning on surprising fans in San Diego at Comic-Con. "Legendary has something very exciting planned that I can't tell you too much about. Something very big is heading to San Diego," Edwards explained.
Additionally, the viral website Godzillaencounter.com that was launched last week has been updated with a new article. This time the website posted a piece entitled "Massive 'Oceanic Anomaly' Approaching California Coast."
The new "Godzilla" movie is returning to Comic-Con since first being announced last year at the exposition. In 2012, Warner Bros. showed a video of a destroyed city and also featured the voice of Robert Oppenheimer, the scientific director on the Manhattan Project. The studio later debuted a poster for the new film, which featured Japanese writing and the title "Godzilla."
Star Aaron Taylor Johnson and Edwards are expected to appear in San Diego to speak about the film.
British director Edwards made his directorial debut in 2010 with the award-winning film "Monsters." The movie was nominated for a British Academy Award and won several first feature film awards.
The new "Godzilla" film tells the story a giant radioactive monster called Godzilla that awakens from its sleep to wreak destruction on its creators. "Godzilla" also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston, Ken Wattanabe, and Sally Hawkins and is written by Max Borenstein and Dave Callaham. "Godzilla" will be released on May 16, 2014 nationwide.
