Venice Film Festival Preview: Terry Gilliam's 'The Zero Theorem' and 'The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby His or Her' Confirmed For Festival

The festival season is on the horizon and rumors of what films will appear at the Venice Film Festival have already started emerging online.

One of the most buzzed films of the year, Terry Gilliam's latest effort "The Zero Theorem," is expected to make its world premiere in Lido. The movie, starring Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton, and Ben Wishaw, has already garnered Oscar buzz and now an Italian film site, Mister Movie, has announced that it will screen at Venice. According to the site, Gilliam already confirmed that the movie will be shown in competition. "I'll be in competition. But I do not remember what day!" Gilliam said.

The news comes as no surprise; the director has shown two other films at Lido. He previously screened "The Fisher King," which won the Silver Lion, and "The Brothers Grimm."

The site also revealed that Ned Benson's double feature "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His" and "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers" would be featured in competition. The movies star Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Viola Davis, Isabelle Huppert, Ciaran Hinds and William Hurt and have already garnered massive Oscar buzz, especially for star Jessica Chastain. While many sites predict the movie will be at the festival, pundits believe it will play out of competition because it is rare to see a first time filmmaker in competition.

The Venice Film Festival will celebrate its 70^th year and will open with Alfonso Cuaron's highly anticipated "Gravity." Among the other films already announced for the festival is Lindsay Lohan's controversial "The Canyons," which will also screen out of competition. The festivities will run from Aug. 28 to Sept. 7.
